Preface
AUM was established with the intention of making a difference in higher education at both the national and regional levels, placing quality education, multifaceted student growth and faculty excellence at the top of its priorities.
AUM is meant to be not just a qualitative addition to institutions of higher learning in this part of the world, but a world-class university in the full sense of the word. Toward this end, it plans to capitalize on the best, up-to-date practices in higher education. Specifically, its non-profit status, environmentally friendly and sustainable campus, highly-committed, highly-experienced Board of Trustees, and its competent faculty and administration staff are only a few features, amongst many others, that contribute to its distinction.
AUM will not save a scintilla of effort to bring to light a model campus. Its campus will not only be one of a kind in the region in the high standards it adheres to and the profligate facilities it contains, but also in its being a home for students, one which provides quality and memorable campus experience. In unison with its belief that formal education per se is not the be-all-and-end-all of a good university’s mission, AUM places as much emphasis on extra-curricular activities, in which students will be deliberately and systematically involved, as on formal curricular learning which will be tailored and delivered according to the best international standards. AUM plans to become a highly competitive university that attracts the most accomplished and promising students. Through its outstanding graduates, excelling faculty members, and effective community outreach programs, it aspires to make a difference in the country and the region.
Vision
AUM supports its mission through an educational philosophy that is informed by cultural heritage and a pedagogical process of understanding; and through a higher education experience that provides a distinctive quality of services for students and scholars, complemented by requirements to participate in physical, cultural and social development activities, in a state-of-the-art self-contained environmentally sustainable campus.
Mission
The University’s mission is to make a palpable and extolable difference in the way we teach, the way we learn, and the way we give back to our communities, placing excellent education, multifaceted student growth and faculty distinction at the top of its priorities.
AUM is committed to providing quality education on the basis of a holistic approach, focusing on the whole person, designed to promote excellence and develop the student’s full capabilities, talents, and personality. The university’s ultimate objective will be the preparation of qualified men and women to take place in society, equipped with professional skills, knowledgeable in their field, and educated in the values of wisdom, astuteness, probity and peace.
During His pontifical pilgrimage and pastoral visit to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan on May 9th 2009, His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI blessed the cornerstone of the university and laid down three important objectives for the university:
AUM will develop the talents and characters of students by preparing them to serve their wider community and global society;By transmitting knowledge and instilling in them the love of truth and adherence to sound values and universal ethics; and by sharpening students’ critical skills through exposing them to robust methods of inquiry and collaborative pedagogies.
To this end, AUM shall foster self-development, intellectual freedom, inquiry and investigation, challenge and achievement, and creative activities. It shall continuously revise and update its educational programs, provide opportunities for continuous and lifelong learning, support the concept of change, be assertive in dealing with national affairs and offer consultations that serve society and contribute towards the overall development of higher education in Jordan.
The university will offer several highly-needed programs in the fields of Business and Finance, Engineering, Health Sciences, Information Technology, Humanities and Social Sciences, Basic Sciences as well as Art and Design. By emphasizing these specializations, the university will prepare students for practical careers that suffer from shortages in qualified cadres, while fostering, at the same time, appreciation of the Arts.
AUM is in the process of being reviewed for approval from the State of New Hampshire to operate as an American university campus in Madaba – Jordan.
