The Middle East Institute in partnership with Southern Methodist University and Howard
University propose to hold an international youth summit accompanied by a collaborative
project. The summit will bring together university students from the MENA region with a group of
American students and MEI interns to discuss cross-border social, political, and cultural topics
related to human rights.
The discussions will be moderated by MEI resident/non-resident scholars. The summit will be
held in a series of Zoom meetings in a roundtable like format. Depending on the number of
interested students, we will use the breakout room feature to allow for more fluid conversation.
The project will ultimately be determined by the discussion, but will consist of a multimedia
presentation or a written report. Following completion of the program, MEI will offer a certificate
of participation. MEI and the participating universities will review the project once completed,
and publish if the quality is satisfactory. The project findings will be presented to an invited
audience on a Zoom webinar.
You can apply to take part in the summit by filling out this google form:
The deadline to apply is January 31st, 2021. Sessions will begin in early February and will run
on a monthly basis until April. The group of selected students will then have until May to
complete the project and present the findings. If you have any questions, please contact Colin
