The American University of Madaba officially inaugurated its first IEEE AUM Student Branch on Monday, 17/11/2025, under the patronage of the President of AUM. The event was attended by the Chair of the IEEE Jordan Section, Dr. Mousa Al-Akras, distinguished guests, faculty members, students, and representatives from IEEE student branches across Jordanian universities.

According to the IEEE Jordan Section, the IEEE AUM Student Branch is now the 25th student branch established at the national level, marking a significant milestone for the university and its commitment to student engagement, innovation, and technology-driven learning.

Representatives from various Jordanian universities attended the ceremony, reflecting the strong academic collaboration and community spirit within the IEEE network.

Opening Remarks

The ceremony began with a speech delivered by the President of AUM, who highlighted the strategic importance of this occasion for the university. His Excellency emphasized that this milestone aligns with AUM’s ongoing academic development, particularly with the recent launch of the first and only master’s program in Jordan in Autonomous Cybersecurity with AI, offered jointly with the Jordan Design and Development Bureau (JODDB).

This pioneering program serves as a cornerstone for bridging academia and industry, promoting digital resilience, strengthening national cybersecurity capacities, and fostering innovation at both the university and national levels.

Significance of Establishing the IEEE AUM Student Branch

In his address, the President affirmed that the creation of this Student Branch opens new opportunities for students to integrate into one of the world’s most prestigious technological communities. Through the IEEE AUM Student Branch, students will gain access to:

  • International conferences and global publications
  • Local and international technical competitions and hackathons
  • Specialized workshops and technical training
  • Professional mentorship and networking with global experts
  • Leadership, volunteering, and community-impact opportunities

These opportunities empower students to strengthen their academic and technical capacities, enhance their problem-solving and communication skills, and prepare them for future professional and technological challenges.

Strategic Importance for AUM

The establishment of the IEEE AUM Student Branch also aligns with the university’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of quality and integrity, particularly within the framework of NECHE accreditation. The branch will contribute to strengthening student learning outcomes, fostering a culture of innovation and research, and expanding experiential learning opportunities.

Conclusion

The opening of the IEEE AUM Student Branch marks the beginning of a new era for student activities, research engagement, and innovation at the American University of Madaba. The university is confident that this branch will soon become a model of excellence among Jordanian universities, enhancing AUM’s academic environment and supporting its mission to prepare students for leadership roles in an increasingly technology-driven world.
